Dr. Shields graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2008. Influenced by her rural upbringing and sense of community, she chose to pursue a primary care residency at Duke’s Southern Regional Area Health Education Center Family Medicine Program in North Carolina. After she completed her family medicine residency in 2011, she worked in a private practice until her life’s circumstances allowed for the perfect academic opportunity. Dr. Shields is currently a full-time faculty member at Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in eastern Tennessee where she teaches medical students and practices family medicine serving the people of Appalachia.
